Creating Unfathomable Art
Some great art feels impossible to make. The artist's skill so vastly surpasses our own, we can't conceive of how they did it. Bernini's sculptures are the first examples to come to mind. Other art is so effortlessly executed that it seems easy to create. Beautiful photography, thoughtful TV writing, and poignant comic strips have this way of being brilliant but in a way that feels attainable for someone who hasn't dedicated their life to the craft. It inspires beholders to venture out and make bad versions of the art they love until their output matches their taste.
I want to make both kinds of art in my life. I want to make the art that seems impossibly beautiful, otherworldly. The kind that makes people shake their head and whistle under their breath.
I also want to make art that seems like a natural byproduct of living my life, like it tumbled out of me. Like a burp. I want to make inviting art that seems to say "Hey, isn't this cool? You could do it too, just give it a shot."
